The papers consist largely in correspondence, circulars, reports to Parliament and newspaper clippings relating to his criticism of the Defence Forces Retirement Benefits Scheme including copies of the reports of Parliamentary Committees in 1970 and 1972. There are also phorographs and Chapman's certificate of discharge dated 1968.

Air Commodore Chapman was a pilot in the R.A.A.F. and an officer in the Department of the Air until his retirement in 1968.
